From our coffee pots to our cell phones and everything in between, technology is constantly evolving. Fitness products are following the same trend. This week, we’re going to talk about my three gym bag staples for an enjoyable, tech-savvy workout.

Fitness Trackers/Smart Watches

While watches were once a thing of the past with the arrival of cell phones, these days you’d be hard pressed to find anyone in the gym without a watch that isn’t just telling time, but monitoring heart rate, steps, calories burned, mileage, etc. These two are my favorites:

Fitbit Versa – The Versa is a smart watch that has a lot of the features of the Apple Watch without the price tag. It has a 4-day battery life, heart rate monitor, music player, sleep tracker, and altimeter. Plus, it’s water resistant up to 50 meters, has a color screen and replaceable band and is compatible with Android, iOS, and Windows.

Garmin Vivosmart – This is a great fitness tracker for those just starting out. With a 7-day battery life, it not only tracks heart rate and sleep quality, but also stress. The genius behind this is to let you know when your body is ready for a workout compared to when it needs rest and relaxation.

Wireless Headphones

If you’re motivated by music when getting your workout on, it’s so much better when you’re free from wires. With Bluetooth technology, we can be plugged into our devices and be free to roam. Though I’m a big fan of my Apple AirPods outside of the gym, they can get uncomfortable and slip out while working out. These are great for the gym:

Beats By Dr Dre Powerbeats Wireless Earphone – These headphones are ideal for any type of workout. The earhooks help keep them in place with most movements, even flipping. They do have a wire that attached them to each other (but not your phone), which is nice. If you’d rather have the same great earphones with no wire at all, check out the Powerbeats Pro Wireless Earphones.

Plantronics BackBeat FIT 500 Sport Headphone – These over-the-ear wireless headphones hold a charge for up to 18 hours and are ideal for heavy lifting.

Water Bottles

Nearly 80% of Americans say they aren’t drinking enough water daily. Based on your weight and activity level, we should be drinking ½ oz to an ounce of water per pound you weigh per day. It seems like an impossible task, but my favorite water bottle will help you get there.

Standard Mouth by Hydro Flask – The Hydro Flask is the perfect everyday bottle. It comes in a variety of sizes from 12 oz to 64 oz so you can hydrate a little or a lot. The stainless-steel bottle design is perfect for keeping drinks cold for 24 hours or hot for 6 hours. And it can withstand all the abuse you put it through because Hydro Flask has a lifetime warranty on all of its products.

Next Sunday, we’ll talk about how being more efficient can reduce your stress.
