The Super Bowl is one of the first big obstacles of the year with your healthy lifestyle. It’s a day when we enjoy chips and dip, pizza, hot wings, and maybe even a few beers. You know what? It’s fine to enjoy it in moderation! This week, we’re going to talk about how you can have a fun and healthy Super Bowl celebration.

Tips for the Big Game

If you're hosting or attending a party, or even just watching with your family, there are a few ways to manage your way through the snackiest day of the year:

  • Are you afraid you're going to overindulge? Eat beforehand. Fill yourself up on the things you know will keep you full throughout the party. If you want to taste some favorites, don’t get too full before the party.

  • Avoid alcohol. I know, the sheer horror on beer’s biggest day; but unfortunately one drink can turn into two and thing a six-pack. Going overboard affects your metabolism and adds unwanted calories.

  • Get in a nice, hard workout in before you go. It will boost your metabolism and prepare for the caloric intake.

  • If you’re going to someone else’s party, bring your own snacks.

Snack Ideas

  • White Bean Dip - A great alternative to hummus with a silkier texture and a great accompaniment to your crudites

  • Chipotle Chicken Sweet Potato Skins - A sweet and savory dish full of fiber

  • Ginger and Garlic Shrimp - Packed with protein, full of flavor and a high concentration of the antioxidant astaxanthin, known to reduce inflammation

  • No Bake Brownies A gluten-free dessert with cocoa which can lower blood pressure, an added bonus when it's a close game!
