You’re going to hate to hear this, but to tone your stomach, you need to both exercise and eat smart. If you can get your nutrition on point and perform some “smart” exercises, then I can promise you’re going to tone your stomach—and the rest of your body. This week, we’re going to talk about how you can tone your stomach.
So, what do you need to do?
The first thing is to change the way you eat. You need to include more protein, more water (for the bloating), and more easily digestible carbs, like fruits and veggies.
Changing the way you eat (and think about food) will help with toning your midsection, or even getting the elusive “6-pack” look.
Once your nutrition is dialed in, it’s time to choose the right exercises. Doing endless crunches every day will not get you the toned stomach you’re looking for.
But what will?
A well-rounded program that targets all the major muscle groups in your body. A strength training program involving compound exercises, like squats and deadlifts, will get you closer to a toned stomach than doing 100s of crunches. That’s a good thing! No one likes crunches.
Plus, alternating between strength training and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) may yield some amazing results. HIIT spares lean muscle mass (the metabolism booster), and forces your body fat stores to be used for energy. It increases the intensity of the workout, leading to more calories burned during—and after—your workout is complete.
In order to tone your stomach—and see definition in your abs—you need to follow the right diet (one that contains plenty of protein, easily-digestible carbs, healthy fats, and fruits and vegetables), and a well-rounded exercise program. This combination will get you the toned, lean stomach you’re after.
Next Sunday, we’ll talk about some simple tips for eating healthy on a budget.
